Why these locks are different
A storefront cylinder is threaded into the lock body and held with a set screw, and the cam on its back has to match that body exactly, or the key turns and nothing happens. The lock body itself sits in a stile only a couple of inches wide, which is why a hook bolt that has shifted, or a door that has dropped on its pivot, stops the lock from catching long before anything breaks. Most calls are fixed by rekeying or replacing the cylinder with the right cam and adjusting the bolt, and the front door ends up on the same key as the back door and the office.

Storefront lock questions
The key turns but the door does not unlock. What is wrong?
Usually the cam on the back of the cylinder, worn or the wrong one for the lock body, or a cylinder that has unscrewed slightly. Both are quick fixes, and neither needs a new lock body.
Can the front door use the same key as the back door?
Almost always. The storefront cylinder is rekeyed or replaced to match the key the rest of the shop uses, or put onto the building's master system.
Can you work before we open?
Yes. Early morning or after close is the normal time for storefront work, and we book it into your hours.
Do you fix the door closer and the pivot too?
We adjust what affects the lock: the strike, the bolt and how the door meets the frame. A failed closer or a broken floor pivot is door-hardware work we can advise on, and we tell you honestly when it needs a glazier or a door company.
