Locks and homes in Hollywood

Hollywood is dense with historic apartment buildings, condos and small businesses, plus homes climbing toward the hills, so we handle a lot of apartment lockouts, tenant rekeys and storefront locks. We open doors without drilling wherever the lock allows.

Hollywood is old, dense and always moving. The apartment buildings here go back to the twenties and thirties, and a lot of them still run the original entry systems: a buzzer panel wired decades ago, a lobby door that no longer latches properly, and unit locks that have been rekeyed by a dozen different hands. Turnover is constant, so the recurring job is a unit changing over along with its mailbox and whatever common doors the tenant held keys to. On the street it is storefronts with exposed cylinders and roll-ups that take a beating.

How fast

Getting to Hollywood

Twenty-three miles over the hill, so 35 to 55 minutes with the 101 and Cahuenga deciding it. Parking is the second variable and on some blocks it is the bigger one, so tell us where we can park when you call.

Neighborhoods

Where we work in Hollywood

Hollywood Boulevard, Franklin Village, Thai Town, Beachwood Canyon toward the hills, and the streets around the studios. Not listed? Call anyway, we cover the whole area.

Questions

Hollywood locksmith questions

Do you open lockouts in old apartment buildings?

Yes. Vintage Hollywood buildings often have older locks, which we open without damage in most cases and can upgrade if you want.

Can you rekey a unit after a tenant leaves?

We can. Tenant-turnover rekeys are common for us in Hollywood; we set every exterior lock to a new key so old keys stop working.

The lobby door does not latch properly any more. Is that the lock?

Usually it is the closer or the alignment rather than the lock. A door that no longer closes hard enough to latch leaves the whole building open, which is a bigger problem than any single unit lock. We adjust the closer and the strike, and where the latch itself is worn we replace that rather than the whole assembly.

How many keys does a tenant actually hold?

More than the lease says, usually: unit, lobby, mailbox, laundry, garage, sometimes a roof or storage door. When somebody moves out we go through the whole set with you, because the one that gets forgotten is nearly always the one that still opens something.
