What decides whether a smart lock works well
Most smart lock complaints are not the electronics, they are the door. A bolt that drags on the strike makes the motor strain, drains the batteries in weeks and leaves the lock jammed half-open. So we check that the door closes square and the bolt throws freely before we fit anything, and we reinforce the strike while we are there. You can buy the lock yourself, and we will fit it, or we can recommend one for your door; we fit the common ones such as Schlage, Kwikset, Yale, Lockly and Ultraloq. We pair the lock to your phone and your home Wi-Fi where it has it; wiring, alarm systems and whole-home automation are outside what we do.

Smart lock questions
What happens when the batteries die?
You get weeks of warnings first. If you miss them, most models have a key cylinder, and some have terminals on the outside where a 9-volt battery held against them powers the keypad long enough to enter your code.
The previous owner's smart lock came with the house. Can you reset it?
Almost always. Most standalone models reset to factory settings from the inside with the door open, and we set them up again in your name with new codes.
Can I buy the lock myself?
Yes. Send us the model before you buy if you like, and we will tell you whether it suits your door, especially the thickness and the existing holes.
Is a smart lock less secure than a normal deadbolt?
Not if it is a well-made one fitted properly. The bolt and strike do the real work either way, and codes you can delete are safer than keys you cannot count.
