High-security locks

High-Security Locks and Restricted Keys

A standard deadbolt keeps an honest person out. A high-security lock is built for the other kind: the key cannot be copied at a kiosk, the cylinder resists picking and drilling, and the whole thing is rated to a standard rather than a marketing word. We fit them and key them to your other doors, so one key still opens the house.

How it works

The part that matters most is the key, not the lock

Most people buy a high-security lock for the cylinder, but the real protection is key control. A restricted keyway means a copy cannot be cut without your authorization, so a contractor, a former tenant or a house cleaner cannot quietly keep one. That is the difference between knowing how many keys exist and hoping you do. Blanks for a restricted keyway are not sold over the counter, so a copy cannot quietly appear.

Questions

High-security lock questions

What makes a lock high-security rather than just expensive?

Three things together: a restricted keyway so copies are controlled, a cylinder built to resist picking and bumping, and hardened inserts against drilling. A grade rating such as ANSI Grade 1 tells you it was tested rather than just advertised.

Can nobody copy my key?

Not without your authorization. That is the point of a restricted keyway: the blanks are not sold openly, and a copy goes through us with your permission. It is the part that stops a key quietly multiplying.

Is it worth it for a normal house?

Sometimes. If your worry is who holds a copy, a rekey solves that for far less. High-security is worth it when the door itself is a target, when you want to know exactly how many keys exist, or on a rental or business where keys change hands.
