Locks and homes in Tujunga
Tujunga is part of the City of Los Angeles but feels like a foothill town of its own, tucked under Mount Lukens with the Big Tujunga Wash along its edge. Plenty of the houses started as small cabins and stone cottages a century ago and were added onto, room by room, ever since; others are hillside homes on narrow streets with a garage below and the front door up a flight of steps.
A house built in pieces has doors from every decade it grew through. A typical call here finds a heavy wood front door with an old rim lock or a worn knob, a sliding patio door that never latched properly, a back room added in the seventies with its own unrelated deadbolt, and a detached workshop or shed on a padlock. People with animals and acreage up the canyon roads also ask for gate locks and chain locks keyed to the house. The useful job is pulling all of that onto one key and making the forgotten side doors as solid as the front.
Getting to Tujunga
Just over fourteen miles from the Canyon Country base. Down the 14 and the 5, then east on the 210 to the Sunland and Tujunga exits: plan on 25 to 40 minutes. Up the canyon roads, add a little for the climb.
Where we work in Tujunga
Commerce Avenue and the old town blocks by Bolton Hall, Foothill Boulevard, the streets off Tujunga Canyon Boulevard and Haines Canyon Avenue, McGroarty Park, and the slopes toward Mount Lukens. Down the hill, La Crescenta and Montrose each have a page, and so do Sylmar and Glendale.
Tujunga locksmith questions
My cabin-style house has a different key for every door. Can that be one key?
Most of the time, yes. We rekey whatever will take it and replace only the odd cylinders that cannot match. Text us a photo of each lock first so we come with the right parts.
Can you key my gate padlock and shed to the house?
Yes, with keyed-alike padlocks or a cylinder swap on the shed door. Outdoor padlocks up here take dust and weather, so we pick ones with covered keyways that keep working.
Is Tujunga the same trip as Sunland?
Practically. Both sit off the same stretch of the 210 and share the arrival window, so Sunland, Tujunga and Shadow Hills are all routine stops for us.
