Why keys break, and what to do about it
Keys rarely break for no reason. A worn key with rounded cuts, a lock that turns hard because the door is dragging on the strike, or a key used as a lever all put the blade under strain until it gives. So after the extraction we check the lock and the door. If the cylinder is sound, a fresh key cut from the pieces or the code is all you need; if it is worn or the door is binding, we fix that too, or the next key will break the same way. We extract from car ignitions and cut a new key; ignition cylinder repair itself is a mechanic's job, and we say so if that is what it needs.

Broken key questions
Can I get it out myself?
If the end of the key is sticking out far enough to grip with pliers, gently, yes. If it is flush or inside, stop: pushing it further in is the most common way a simple extraction becomes a new lock.
Will I need a new lock?
Usually not. The piece comes out, the lock is undamaged, and a new key is cut on the spot. A new lock is only needed if the cylinder was already worn or was damaged trying to get the piece out.
Can you make a new key from the broken one?
Yes. With both pieces we can read the cuts, and with the code or the lock we can cut one even if a piece is missing.
The key broke in the car ignition. Can you help?
We extract it and cut and program a new key. If the ignition cylinder itself is damaged, that is a repair for a mechanic, and we tell you straight away.
Key broken off in the lock?
Text a photo of the lock and the broken piece, and we will send a price and an arrival time.
