Mailbox and Cluster Box Lock Replacement

A mailbox lock is a small job that stops mattering the moment your post is sitting in a box you cannot open. We open it, replace the cam lock and hand you a set of new keys, usually in one short visit and without damaging the door of the box.

How it works

First check who actually owns the box

This is the question that decides whether you should be calling us at all. If your mail comes from a cluster box unit that the Postal Service installed and maintains, the compartment lock belongs to the Postal Service, the carrier holds the arrow key, and the right move is a trip to your local post office with identification rather than a locksmith visit. If the box belongs to the property, which covers most apartment banks, private cluster boxes and every wall or post box at a single-family house, then it is the owner or manager who replaces the lock and we can do it today. Tell us on the phone what the box looks like and where the mail comes from, and we will tell you which of the two you have before you pay anybody.

Questions

Mailbox lock questions

Do I need the landlord's permission?

For an apartment bank, yes, and any locksmith who skips that step is one to walk away from. The box belongs to the property, not to the tenant. In practice the manager usually says yes in a phone call, and if they would rather we invoiced them directly, that is easy to arrange.

Can you open it without wrecking the door?

Almost always. A mailbox cam lock is a small, simple mechanism and it picks or decodes quickly. Drilling it is a last resort and even then it is the lock that goes, not the compartment door, so nothing is left looking forced.

How many keys do I get?

Two as standard, and we can cut more on the spot if a second person needs one. For a manager replacing a whole bank we can key each compartment differently and give you one master that opens them all, which is what makes turnover between tenants bearable.

Locked out of your mailbox?

Call and describe the box. We will tell you whose lock it is before we come out.
