Usually it is the gate, not the lock
A gate lock that will not catch is rarely broken. Wood gates swell and sag, metal gates drop on their hinges, and after a while the bolt misses the strike by a quarter of an inch. We square the gate first, adjusting the hinges, moving the strike or adding a stop, and only then decide whether the lock needs replacing. A pool gate has a rule to meet as well: in California a gate into a pool area has to close and latch by itself, with the release placed no lower than 60 inches above the ground so a small child cannot reach it. We fit latches made for that, and your city inspector has the final word.

Gate lock questions
Can the gate open with the same key as my house?
Almost always. If the gate lock is the same brand as the front door, we rekey it to match. If it is not, we swap it for one that is, usually a Schlage or Kwikset to match the house.
Why is my gate key suddenly so hard to turn?
Sun, dust and rain reach an outdoor cylinder in a way they never reach an indoor one. Often it only needs cleaning and a dry lubricant, not oil, which collects dust. If the cylinder is corroded inside, we replace it and key it to the house.
Do you work on electric gates?
Not on the motor or the opener; that is a gate contractor's job. If the gate has a keyed lock, a keypad lock or a padlock, that part is ours.
